About Andhra Pradesh Power Utilities
The Andhra Pradesh power sector is managed by five distinct yet interconnected state-owned utilities: Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO), Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO), and the three distribution companies—Eastern Power Distribution Company of A.P. Limited (APEPDCL), Central Power Distribution Company of A.P. Limited (APCPDCL), and Southern Power Distribution Company of A.P. Limited (APSPDCL). These entities operate under the administrative control of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to ensure the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity across the state.
APGENCO serves as the backbone of power generation, managing thermal and hydel power stations, while APTRANSCO acts as the vital link, maintaining the high-voltage transmission network that connects generation plants to the distribution grid. The distribution companies, including Visakhapatnam-based APEPDCL, Vijayawada-based APCPDCL, and Tirupati-based APSPDCL, ensure that electricity reaches every household, agricultural field, and industrial unit in the state.
Working for these utilities offers a prestigious career path for engineering graduates. These organizations are the primary drivers of the state’s energy infrastructure, providing immense job security, competitive pay scales under the RPS-2022 framework, and opportunities for professional growth in a critical public service sector. Employees are tasked with maintaining the stability of the state’s power grid, implementing smart-grid technologies, and supporting the industrial growth of Andhra Pradesh. For an Assistant Executive Engineer, this role involves high-level technical oversight, project management, and field operations, making it a cornerstone of the state’s developmental efforts. The collaborative nature of this recruitment process reflects the integrated approach the state takes toward energy management, ensuring that talent is distributed efficiently to meet the specific operational needs of each utility across all districts, from Kurnool to SPSR Nellore.
