About Institute of Banking Personnel Selection
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous body established in 1975, initially as the Personnel Selection Services (PSS). It was later incorporated as an independent entity in 1984 under the aegis of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the public sector banks. Headquartered in Mumbai, IBPS serves as the primary recruitment agency for the entire Indian public sector banking industry. Its mission is to provide a standardized, transparent, and merit-based selection process for personnel across various levels, ensuring that the banking sector remains robust and efficient.
IBPS operates on a national scale, conducting Common Recruitment Processes (CRP) for thousands of vacancies annually. By centralizing the recruitment process, the organization eliminates the need for individual banks to conduct separate exams, thereby saving time and resources for both the institutions and the candidates. The organization is governed by a board consisting of representatives from the RBI, the Ministry of Finance, and various public sector banks.
For a candidate, securing a position through IBPS is a gateway to a prestigious career in the financial sector. Working as a Specialist Officer (SO) in a public sector bank offers unparalleled job security, competitive pay scales, and structured career progression. These roles are highly sought after because they allow professionals—such as IT experts, legal advisors, and agricultural specialists—to apply their domain-specific knowledge within the framework of national banking. Whether you are based in Srikakulam or any other part of the country, the IBPS selection process ensures a level playing field based solely on merit. The institutional reputation of IBPS is built on its commitment to integrity and technological innovation in testing, making it a cornerstone of India’s financial infrastructure. Joining a participating bank through this process means becoming part of a legacy that supports the economic backbone of the nation.
